The online e-return filing process for the 2025-26 tax year began on August 4. In the first 10 days, 96,945 taxpayers filed e-returns.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) announced this information in a notification on Thursday.
The notification said that on August 4, Financial Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed officially inaugurated the e-return filing process for the 2025-26 tax year. Since then, about 1 lakh taxpayers have filed returns in just 10 days, which is five times more than last year. Online return filing for the 2024-25 tax year began on September 9 and 20,523 returns were submitted in the first 10 days.
The National Board of Revenue, in a special order issued on August 3, said that filing e-returns is mandatory for all categories of taxpayers in the country, except for senior taxpayers aged 65 years or above, physically disabled or with special needs, Bangladeshi taxpayers residing abroad, and legal representatives of deceased taxpayers. However, a subsequent order issued on August 11 exempted foreign nationals working in Bangladesh from this obligation.
The NBR also said that if a taxpayer is unable to file his return online within the stipulated time due to any problem related to registration in the e-return system, he can apply to the concerned Deputy Commissioner of Taxes by October 31 with specific reasons. Subject to the approval of the Additional or Joint Commissioner of Taxes, that taxpayer can submit paper returns.
Taxpayers can pay taxes from home using bank transfer, debit/credit card, bKash, Rocket, Nagad or any other mobile financial service. After submitting the return, you can automatically print an acknowledgement letter and an income tax certificate by mentioning the necessary information.
