On Tuesday, the capital markets’ recovery momentum paused for a while as cautious investors locked in recent gains, capitalising on the significant rebound amid market-wide optimism surrounding media reports of the long-awaited central bank’s funding support for ICB.

DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, shed 6.6 points and settled at 5,018 points as against 5,025 points in the previous trading session.

MMarket analysts noted that there was some ups and downs in the market as investors were active on both sides, but cautious investors taking profits reduced early gains, causing the main index to end lower.

Meanwhile, investor participation continued the momentum from the previous day, as indicated by market turnover increasing by 0.1 per cent to Tk 6.4 billion.

In the sectoral front, textiles accounted for the highest share of turnover at 12.0 percent, followed by fuel & power at 11.2 percent and pharmaceuticals at 10.6 percent. The sectors displayed mixed returns; Jute (-1.5 per cent), Ceramic (-1.0 per cent), and Life Insurance (-0.8 per cent) had the largest declines on the bourse on Tuesday, while Mutual Fund (3.1 per cent), IT (2.5 per cent), and Cement (1.1 per cent) showed positive returns.

Of the 397 issues traded, 129 advanced, 226 declined, and 42 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, however, closed in a positive zone. The Selective Categories’ Index (CSCX) increased by 68.4 points, while the All Share Price Index (CASPI) rose by 114.0 points.
