The Advisers Council Committee of the Government on Tuesday recommended the approval to purchase two major import proposals of 80,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser to ensure an uninterrupted supply of such essential agricultural input for the upcoming cultivation season.

The approval came from the 48th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase in 2025, held virtually on Tuesday with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair on Tuesday.

The Committee endorsed the import of 40,000 metric tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from Fertiglobe Distribution Limited, UAE at a price of US$409.50 per metric tonne under the Ministry of Industries. The total contract value stands at Taka 201.14 crore.

Additionally, under a state-level agreement between Morocco’s OCP Nutricrops and Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC), the Committee recommended approval for importing 40,000 metric tonnes of DAP fertiliser under the 9th lot.

The consignment will be purchased at US$682.67 per metric tonne, with a total value of Taka 335.32 crore.

Officials said the imports will help stabilise the fertiliser market and support agricultural production nationwide.
