Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has initiated to introduce an automated system to make the export-import process faster and transparent.

CPA has hired the Magnetic Tech Limited on outsourcing basis under revenue sharing model to introduce new help point titled “CPA Agent Desk System” and a web-based platform has also been developed in this regard to provide services to the port users in the export-import documentation process.

“Besides making export-import related data-entry into the server and delivery order processing, the newly introduced help point would also provide all sorts of documentation processing, including correction of Bill of Lading (BL), Export General Manifesto (EGM) and Import General Manifesto (IGM), to the user” CPA Secretary Omar Faruk said on Tuesday.

Necessary work related to developing a payment gateway for effective functioning of the system has been completed successfully and the facility is now available through online, CPA sources said.

Leading port users like shipping agents, freight forwarders, clearing and forwarding agents have been informed and apprised on practice manual and operational method as well as benefits of the newly introduced system.

New system will significantly bring dynamism in overall port management, reduce processing cost and make easier and hassle-free the documentation procedure through online platform.

CPA officials hope that after successful implementation of the system, it would also contribute to ensuring transparency, increase digitalised port operation and brighten the images of the country’s prime seaport in outside world.
