Bangladesh Bank (BB) has lifted the temporary restrictions on mobile financial services (MFS) and internet banking that were imposed ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election. The restrictions were removed at midnight on Thursday, allowing customers to resume transactions under normal conditions.

The limitations, which lasted four days, were initially announced on Sunday night by the central bank.

During this period, customers of MFS providers, including bKash, Rocket and Nagad, were restricted to person-to-person (P2P) transactions of no more than Tk1,000 per transfer.

Additionally, users could conduct a maximum of 10 such transactions per day, limiting total daily transfers to Tk10,000. Internet banking P2P transactions were entirely suspended, although payments for merchants, utility bills, and other regular services continued without interruption.

According to BB, the restrictions were aimed at preventing the misuse of funds during the election period, particularly in relation to vote-related activities. Many users reported inconvenience during the restriction period, as they were unable to transfer money freely for personal or family purposes.

With the removal of the caps, MFS and internet banking users can now conduct transactions without the previous limits.

The BB emphasised that these measures were temporary and election-related, ensuring normal financial activity has resumed across the country.

Authorities also urged the public to continue using digital banking responsibly while assuring that the banking system will maintain safeguards against fraud and misuse.
