Md Mostakur Rahman has been appointed as the new governor of Bangladesh Bank, with the government issuing an official gazette notification on Wednesday confirming his appointment.
The notification was released by the Financial Institutions Division (FID) under the Ministry of Finance and signed by Deputy Secretary Mohammad Abraoul Hasan Majumder.
It states that Mostakur Rahman will serve a four-year term, effective from the date he formally assumes office.
According to the order, his appointment is subject to the condition that he must sever all existing professional affiliations and institutional ties prior to joining the central bank as governor. The government has stipulated that he will receive salary, allowances and other benefits from Bangladesh Bank in line with the terms and conditions outlined in a contractual agreement to be signed with the authorities.
The gazette further notes that additional conditions governing his tenure will be determined under the provisions of the contract. The appointment has been made in the public interest and takes immediate effect.
Mostakur Rahman’s appointment comes at a critical time for the country’s financial sector, as the central bank continues to address challenges related to inflation management, foreign exchange reserves, banking sector stability and broader macroeconomic reforms. His leadership will be closely observed by financial institutions, investors and policymakers amid ongoing efforts to strengthen regulatory oversight and restore confidence in the banking system.
