Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has urged Chinese investors to increase their presence in Bangladesh, highlighting the deep-rooted friendship and strategic partnership between Dhaka and Beijing.

The minister made the call during a courtesy meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen at the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday, according to a ministry press release.

Describing China as one of Bangladesh’s key development partners, Salahuddin said the relationship between the two countries is time-tested and mutually beneficial.

He stressed the need to elevate bilateral cooperation further, taking into account the strategic, regional and geographical importance shared by both nations.

He acknowledged China’s involvement in several major development projects in Bangladesh and encouraged further investment in upcoming initiatives.

Ambassador Yao Wen said Chinese investment is expected to grow further now that Bangladesh has a stable government.

He noted that nearly 10,000 Chinese nationals are currently working in different sectors across the country.

The envoy also emphasised that sustainable development is closely linked with security and law enforcement, adding that a stable law-and-order situation is essential to attract foreign investment.

In response, the home minister reaffirmed that maintaining public security and stability remains the government’s highest priority.

During the meeting, the Chinese ambassador invited Bangladesh to join the “International Alliance Combating Telecom and Cyber Fraud,” an initiative under China’s Ministry of Public Security.

A formal proposal has already been forwarded through official channels.

Salahuddin instructed concerned officials to review the expired Memorandum of Understanding on the “Plan of Action on Law Enforcement Training Cooperation” between the two countries and take necessary steps for renewal.

He also expressed his intention to visit China at a mutually convenient time to further strengthen cooperation.

The discussion covered security collaboration, cybercrime prevention, police training, trade expansion and broader bilateral ties.

Ambassador Yao extended congratulations to the minister on his appointment and delivered greetings from China’s Minister of Public Security, while inviting him to visit China later this year.

Senior officials from the Home Ministry and representatives of the Chinese Embassy attended the meeting.
