Bangladesh and the United Kingdom held high-level discussions to deepen bilateral trade, expand investment opportunities, and strengthen collaboration in multilateral platforms, including preparations for the upcoming WTO Ministerial Conference.
The talks took place in London, where Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and Prime Minister's Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir met with UK Minister of State for Trade Sir Chris Bryant MP.
The discussions focused on promoting trade and business relations, safeguarding investor interests, and exploring potential avenues for investment in Bangladesh’s blue economy and other strategic sectors.
Both sides also discussed ways to broaden the global presence of the "Made in Bangladesh" brand and enhance educational cooperation.
Ahead of the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference in Cameroon later this month, both countries agreed to maintain close coordination to ensure alignment on international trade priorities.
Separately, UK Trade Envoy to Bangladesh Baroness Rosie Winterton of Doncaster visited the Bangladesh High Commission in London, where she met Dr Khalilur Rahman and Humayun Kabir.
The meeting reviewed opportunities to strengthen the aviation sector, with an emphasis on positioning Bangladesh as a regional aviation hub.
The Bangladeshi delegation also engaged with stakeholders to explore initiatives supporting the growth of the country’s aviation infrastructure.
In a related development, Professor Dapo Akande, the United Kingdom’s nominee for the International Court of Justice (ICJ) judgeship for the 2027-2036 term, met with the Bangladeshi officials to present his candidature.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current state of bilateral cooperation and reiterated their commitment to enhancing collaboration in multilateral forums, intergovernmental elections, and other international platforms.
