The vast majority of garment factories in Dhaka and Chattogram have disbursed Eid bonuses and cleared salaries ahead of the festival, according to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the BGMEA said that out of 2,127 operational factories in the two major industrial hubs, 2,080 factories - or 97.79 per cent - have already paid Eid bonuses to their workers. Among them, 1,753 factories are located in Dhaka and 327 in Chattogram.

The association also reported that salary payments for February have been largely completed. A total of 2,104 factories, representing 98.92 per cent of the total, have paid wages for the month. This includes 1,767 factories in Dhaka and 337 in Chattogram.

BGMEA noted that preparations are also underway for advance salary payments for March. Around 870 factories, or 40.90 per cent of the total, are expected to pay March wages ahead of Eid to support workers during the festive period. Of these, 840 factories are in Dhaka and 30 in Chattogram.

The update reflects overall stability in the ready-made garment sector ahead of Eid, with most factories meeting their financial obligations to workers on time.
