Chattogram Port successfully handled 54,898 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units) of containers during the seven-day Eid-ul-Fitr holiday period, maintaining a steady flow of cargo despite the festive break.

Of the total containers, 28,961 TEUs were imports, while 25,937 TEUs were exports. The busiest day of the week was 18 March, when 11,861 TEUs were processed.

Between 17 and 23 March, the port handled a total of 25,08,614 tonnes of cargo, including 23,61,786 tonnes of imports and 1,46,828 tonnes of exports. Vessel traffic remained smooth throughout the week, with 64 ships berthed, averaging over nine vessels per day.

Eid day, 21 March, saw reduced activity, with only three vessels berthed, 962 TEUs of containers moved, and cargo handling dropping to 2,55,874 tonnes - the lowest during the holiday week.

Secretary of the Chattogram Port Authority Syed Refayet Hamim highlighted that the port maintained essential services and kept supply chains functioning even during the holiday. While operations slowed on Eid due to limited transport staff, special measures ensured uninterrupted handling of critical imports and industrial raw materials.

Officials expect operations to pick up as government and private offices resume work. The port authority reiterated its commitment to keeping key operations running during major holidays to avoid congestion and ensure timely delivery of essential goods.
