Bangladesh and the Republic of Korea have formally signed the Record of Discussion (RoD) and Terms of Reference (ToR) for the “Advanced Project of Rolling Stock Operation and Management in Bangladesh,” aimed at strengthening the operational efficiency and safety of Bangladesh Railway.

The signing ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Economic Relations Division (ERD) in the capital, according to an official ERD press release. Under the agreement, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) of the Republic of Korea will provide a grant of US$ 3.63 million, equivalent to approximately Tk45.12 crore, to support the project.

The initiative will be implemented by Bangladesh Railway under the supervision of the Ministry of Railways, with a focus on modernising rolling stock operations and enhancing the overall management of the railway system.

The project aims to improve operational capabilities, upgrade existing infrastructure, and increase transportation capacity while ensuring the highest standards of safety for passengers and freight.

On behalf of the government of Bangladesh, Additional Secretary and Wing Chief (Asia, JEC and F&F) of ERD Mirana Mahrukh signed the RoD and ToR, while Assistant Minister for Infrastructure Affairs of MOLIT Seok-gi Kim signed on behalf of the Republic of Korea.

The project represents a significant step in strengthening bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and Korea in the transportation sector. Officials said the initiative is expected to modernise railway operations, improve service reliability, and provide long-term benefits to the country’s transportation network, supporting sustainable economic growth and improved connectivity.
