Saudi Arabia has shown keen interest in deepening its engagement with Bangladesh, particularly in the areas of port development, industrial cooperation and investment expansion.
The interest was conveyed by Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abdullah Zafer H bin Abiyah during a courtesy meeting with Industries Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir at the ministry in Dhaka on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the two sides explored a wide range of issues aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation. Key areas of discussion included the development of seaport infrastructure, modernisation of the shipping sector, expansion of bilateral trade, and promotion of joint investment initiatives in various industrial sectors.
Speaking at the meeting, Industries Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir highlighted the growing opportunities for collaboration between the two countries.
He said strengthening port infrastructure and modernising maritime operations could play a crucial role in boosting trade and economic connectivity.
He also noted that Bangladesh has created an investor-friendly environment through supportive policies and continuous infrastructure development, making it an attractive destination for foreign investment.
Referring to major national projects, the minister identified the Matarbari deep-sea port project as a key area for potential international collaboration, emphasising its importance for the country’s long-term economic growth and maritime capacity.
“The government is giving top priority to the development of port infrastructure as a driver of economic progress,” he said, inviting Saudi investors to explore emerging opportunities in Bangladesh.
Ambassador Dr Abdullah Zafer H bin Abiyah praised Bangladesh’s steady economic advancement and ongoing development efforts.
He expressed optimism about further strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in the fields of port infrastructure, logistics and industrial investment.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current state of relations and reiterated their commitment to enhancing cooperation through continued dialogue and partnership.
Industries Secretary Md Obaidur Rahman and senior officials from the ministry, along with representatives from the Saudi Embassy in Dhaka, were also present at the meeting.
