The President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Telenor Group Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during her visit to Bangladesh, and reaffirmed the company’s long-term commitment to the country’s digital development.
The meeting, held on Monday, was also attended by Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman, along with senior officials from both organisations.
During the discussion, Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer highlighted Telenor’s nearly 30-year presence in Bangladesh and expressed confidence in the country’s strong potential for a digitally driven future.
She pointed to key strengths such as a large youth population, rapid adoption of digital services, and an expanding innovation ecosystem.
She also emphasised Bangladesh’s strategic importance within Telenor’s Asian operations and described the company as a long-term partner in the country’s digital transformation journey. Telenor reiterated its commitment to expanding network connectivity, promoting digital inclusion, and investing in skills development to support sustainable economic growth.
A major focus of the meeting was on preparing young Bangladeshis for future opportunities, particularly in emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI). Both sides discussed the importance of building a skilled workforce to enhance employment prospects and support the government’s broader vision of achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2034.
Telenor and Grameenphone also reaffirmed their confidence in Bangladesh’s long-term growth potential and their intention to continue contributing to the country’s digital advancement.
The discussion further highlighted the need for a stable and investment-friendly regulatory environment to accelerate progress and fully harness the benefits of digital connectivity for society.
