Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir on Friday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman.

Mahbubur Rahman, in age of 58, passed away at 6:25am while undergoing treatment at Square Hospital in Dhaka.

In a condolence message, the minister paid rich tribute to the deceased, describing him as a skilled, honest, and dedicated government official.

Abdul Muktadir mentioned that Rahman’s professionalism, integrity, and strong sense of duty made significant contributions to the activities and success of the Ministry of Commerce.

He further remarked that the nation has lost an experienced administrator in his untimely death, which created a vacuum difficult to fill.

Rahman was admitted to Square Hospital on April 13 after a sudden drop in blood platelets and was later diagnosed with malaria during treatment.

A distinguished civil servant, he belonged to the 13th BCS (Customs and Excise) cadre and served in various important positions in the government.

He joined the Ministry of Commerce as Secretary on February 25, 2025, and served the post with dedication until his death.

He left behind his wife, three daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers.

The minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
