Bangladesh has raised the retail price of bottled soybean oil by Tk 4 per litre, marking the latest adjustment in response to pressure from global commodity markets.
The decision was announced by Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir following a price review meeting in Dhaka. Under the revised rates, bottled soybean oil will now be sold at Tk 199 per litre, up from the previous Tk 195.
Alongside the increase, the government has set the price of a five-litre bottle at Tk 1,040, while loose soybean oil will be available at Tk 179 per litre. However, the most immediate impact for consumers is the Tk 4 rise in the standard one-litre bottled product, which is widely used in households.
Officials said the price adjustment reflects changes in international markets, where fluctuations in supply and import costs continue to influence domestic pricing. Bangladesh depends heavily on imported edible oil, making local prices sensitive to global trends.
Authorities stated that the increase aims to ensure uninterrupted supply and prevent market instability. The new pricing structure has been implemented with immediate effect, and the government has indicated it will continue monitoring the situation closely.
The Tk 4 increase, though relatively modest, adds to the cost burden for consumers already facing rising prices of essential goods, highlighting the ongoing impact of global market volatility on everyday living expenses.
