France has expressed strong interest in expanding its investment footprint in Bangladesh, identifying the country as a fast-growing and promising economic hub in South Asia.

The interest was conveyed by French Ambassador to Bangladesh Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet during a meeting with Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Thursday.

According to a press release, the French envoy highlighted Bangladesh’s rapid industrialisation, ongoing infrastructure development, and large consumer base as key factors making it an attractive destination for foreign investors.

Both sides discussed ways to enhance the business climate, expand investment opportunities, and strengthen long-term economic and strategic cooperation between the two countries.

The ambassador welcomed Bangladesh’s ongoing reforms aimed at improving efficiency in business operations and simplifying investment procedures.

The commerce minister said the government is implementing a range of reforms to create a more competitive and investor-friendly environment. He noted that special focus is being given to improving the ease of doing business through reducing bureaucratic complexities, digitising approval systems, and speeding up services for investors.

Officials said Bangladesh is also working to attract greater foreign direct investment (FDI) by modernising its regulatory framework and strengthening institutional support for international businesses.

The meeting was also attended by Md Abdur Rahim Khan, secretary (Routine Duty) of the Ministry of Commerce.

Both sides expressed optimism that enhanced cooperation between Bangladesh and France would open new avenues for trade, investment, and economic partnership in the coming years.
