Bangladesh, China pledge deeper cooperation in trade, investment

Bangladesh and China have held extensive discussions on expanding bilateral cooperation in key areas such as connectivity, trade, investment, multilateral engagement and broader regional affairs, as both sides reaffirmed their long-standing diplomatic partnership.

The discussions took place in Beijing during a meeting between Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and Liu Haixing, minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee (IDCPC), according to a press release issued by the foreign ministry in Dhaka on Thursday.

During the meeting, both sides conducted a comprehensive review of the current state of Bangladesh-China relations. Special attention was given to strengthening transport and connectivity networks, increasing bilateral trade flows, and encouraging greater Chinese investment in Bangladesh’s priority sectors. The two countries also exchanged views on enhancing cooperation in multilateral platforms and addressing regional issues of mutual interest.

Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman highlighted Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s vision of building a more connected, economically dynamic, and globally engaged Bangladesh.

He emphasised that stronger international partnerships, particularly with major development partners like China, are crucial for achieving long-term economic transformation and sustainable growth.

Both sides reiterated their commitment to the One China Principle, underscoring the political foundation of their bilateral relationship.

They also expressed readiness to further deepen cooperation across strategic, economic, and development-oriented sectors in the coming years.

Foreign ministry officials described the meeting as constructive and forward-looking, reflecting a shared intention to enhance practical cooperation and sustain strong momentum in Bangladesh-China relations across multiple dimensions.
