The parliamentary budget session for the upcoming 2026-27 fiscal year is set to begin on 7 June at the National Parliament, according to a notification issued by the Parliament Secretariat on Thursday.
The session will mark the formal start of discussions on the national budget for the fiscal year beginning on 1 July. Lawmakers are expected to engage in detailed deliberations on revenue plans, expenditure priorities, and key development allocations during the session.
According to the notification, the budget will be placed and discussed in the second session of the 13th Parliament. The Secretariat said all necessary arrangements are being made to facilitate smooth proceedings during the budget session.
President of Bangladesh Mohammed Shahabuddin has convened the session under Article 72(1) of the Constitution, the statement added. This constitutional provision empowers the President to summon Parliament sessions at appropriate intervals.
Officials said the upcoming budget session will be crucial as it comes at a time when the government is focusing on economic stability, revenue expansion, and increased development spending across key sectors such as infrastructure, education, health and energy.
Preparations are underway within the Ministry of Finance and other relevant agencies to finalise budget proposals ahead of the session. The finance minister is expected to present the national budget shortly after the session begins.
Parliamentary sources indicated that discussions are likely to be extensive, with members expected to raise concerns over inflation, employment, and public investment priorities during the budget debate.
