Bangladesh and Oman have expressed a shared interest in strengthening cooperation in key areas such as labour migration, trade, investment and broader economic engagement, while Dhaka reiterated its strict stance against illegal migration and its focus on sending more skilled workers abroad.

The discussion took place when Oman’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Jamil Haji Ismail Al Balushi paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at her office in Dhaka on Sunday, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, the state minister appreciated Oman’s leadership role in promoting peace and stability in the Middle East and highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between the two countries.

The Omani ambassador conveyed greetings from his government to the BNP-led administration of Bangladesh following its victory in the 13th parliamentary election. Both sides also reviewed the progress of bilateral relations and explored opportunities to further expand cooperation in areas including trade, investment, culture and sports.

Shama Obaed Islam expressed gratitude to Oman for hosting a large Bangladeshi workforce and reaffirmed Bangladesh’s firm policy against irregular migration.

She stressed that future labour exports should focus on skilled and semi-skilled workers to ensure greater productivity and mutual economic benefit for both countries.

She also underlined Bangladesh’s commitment to strengthening its overseas employment strategy in line with global labour market demands.

In addition, the state minister appreciated Oman’s support for Bangladesh’s candidature in the election for the President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, describing it as a reflection of strong diplomatic ties between the two nations.
