Leaders of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) on Monday met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Division office at the Secretariat in Dhaka to discuss the current condition and future development of the country’s apparel sector.

According to the Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony, the meeting took place in the afternoon and focused on the challenges and opportunities facing Bangladesh’s ready-made garment and knitwear industries, which are considered key pillars of the national economy.

During the discussion, the delegation highlighted issues related to export growth, global market competitiveness, and long-term sustainability of the sector.

They also exchanged views on strategies to further expand Bangladesh’s export earnings through improved policy support and industry collaboration.

The garment and knitwear sectors, which employ millions and contribute significantly to foreign exchange earnings, were described as central to the country’s economic stability and future growth prospects.

Senior government officials were present at the meeting, including Industries Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon, Prime Minister’s Adviser and PMO spokesperson Mahdi Amin, and Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar.

Officials said the meeting reflected the government’s ongoing engagement with key export-oriented sectors, particularly the RMG industry, to ensure continued growth and strengthen Bangladesh’s position in the global apparel market.
