Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday chaired a high-level meeting focused on improving the livelihoods and overall living conditions of salt farmers across Bangladesh.

The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Division office at the Bangladesh Secretariat in Dhaka in the afternoon, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony.

During the discussion, special emphasis was placed on ensuring that salt farmers receive fair and reasonable prices for their produce. Participants also reviewed a range of policy and administrative measures aimed at strengthening the economic stability of people engaged in salt production.

Officials noted that improving the income level of salt farmers is essential for sustaining domestic salt production and reducing vulnerabilities within the rural economy. The meeting further discussed ways to enhance support systems for farmers, including market access, production efficiency, and institutional assistance.

Several senior government officials attended the meeting, including Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Finance Division Secretary Dr Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder, Industries Secretary Md Obaidur Rahman, Additional Secretary of the Commerce Ministry Md Abdur Rahim Khan, and Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) Chairman Md Saiful Islam.

The meeting underscored the government’s intention to adopt coordinated policy measures across relevant ministries to ensure sustainable growth in the salt sector and improve the economic resilience of salt-producing communities.
