Bangladesh and China have expressed strong interest in strengthening cooperation in the green textile and garment sector, with a focus on sustainable production methods, modern technologies and long-term industrial collaboration aimed at boosting competitiveness in global markets.

The commitment was highlighted at the inauguration of the “2nd Bangladesh-China Green Textile Expo (BCGTX) 2026,” held on Thursday at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka.

The three-day exhibition has been jointly organised by Savor International Limited and the Chinese Enterprises Association in Bangladesh (CEAB), with support from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bangladesh.

Speaking as the chief guest, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said cooperation between Bangladesh and China has become crucial for advancing the country’s textile and garment industry, especially in the context of global sustainability demands.

He noted that China’s rapid rise as a global manufacturing leader has been driven by technological innovation and industrial efficiency, and said Bangladesh can benefit by adopting similar practices to modernise its own sector.

The minister also called for increased Chinese investment in Bangladesh’s textile industry to create jobs and ensure mutual economic growth.

Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen said China is ready to deepen cooperation with Bangladesh in green transformation, particularly through energy-efficient machinery, eco-friendly materials and smart manufacturing systems. He also mentioned that China is expanding imports from Bangladesh, including mangoes and potentially jackfruit in the near future.

Industry leaders from both countries emphasised that sustainability, automation and innovation are becoming central to the future of the textile sector. They highlighted Bangladesh’s growing number of green factories as a strong foundation for future development.

Officials noted that bilateral trade between the two countries reached USD 18.89 billion in FY2024-25, reflecting deepening economic ties.

The expo features eco-friendly textile technologies, recyclable materials, seminars, and B2B networking sessions, with participation from leading universities, garment groups and Chinese and Bangladeshi enterprises. It will remain open until Saturday.
