A $70 million development project aimed at promoting climate-resilient agriculture, environmentally friendly enterprises and improved nutrition has been formally launched in Bangladesh through an agreement signed between the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) and the Finance Division under the Ministry of Finance.

The agreement was signed at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday by PKSF Deputy Managing Director Dr Akond Mohammad Rafiqul Islam and Joint Secretary of the Finance Division Mst Nazneen. The initiative, titled “Growth for Climate Resilient and Environmental Entrepreneurship and Nutrition (GREEN),” will be financed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) through the Government of Bangladesh.

Officials said the project will be implemented nationwide between 2026 and 2031, with special focus on selected regions based on poverty levels, climate vulnerability and agricultural potential.

Around 2,60,000 people are expected to benefit from the programme. The target groups include poor and marginal farmers, women and youth entrepreneurs, small agricultural business owners, households in climate-risk areas, and members of ethnic minority communities.

The project is designed to strengthen climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable food systems while expanding access to inclusive financial services. It also aims to build institutional capacity and support rural entrepreneurship.

In addition, the initiative will focus on improving food safety, increasing rural incomes, and encouraging sustainable production systems. Authorities said the programme will also contribute to the development of a green and creative rural economy by promoting innovation in agriculture and enterprise development.

The GREEN project is expected to play a significant role in supporting long-term environmental sustainability while enhancing livelihoods in climate-affected communities across Bangladesh.
