The government has decided to organise a series of roadshows aimed at attracting both domestic and foreign investment to revive closed and financially struggling state-owned factories across Bangladesh.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting on the reopening and management of industrial units under the Ministry of Industries, held at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman chaired the meeting at his office in the Cabinet Division.
According to Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Mostafa Zulfiquar Hasan, officials were instructed to complete all necessary preparations for the proposed roadshows within June. The initiative is intended to showcase investment opportunities in factories that have remained shut or have been operating at a loss.
During the meeting, representatives from various agencies and organisations under the Ministry of Industries presented detailed assessments of the current condition of the factories. The presentations highlighted operational challenges, financial difficulties, future prospects and possible measures for improving performance.
The Prime Minister stressed the need to identify practical and effective strategies for reopening closed industrial units as quickly as possible. He also emphasised transforming loss-making enterprises into profitable ventures through improved management and fresh investment.
Particular importance was given to attracting investors from both Bangladesh and abroad. Officials informed the meeting that recommendations prepared by an expert committee are already being reviewed to determine the best course of action for reviving the factories.
The government believes that increased investment, modern management practices and strategic partnerships can help restore productivity, create jobs and strengthen the industrial sector.
Among those attending the meeting were Commerce and Industries Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Finance and Planning Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, and ABM Abdus Sattar, along with other senior officials.
