The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) is preparing to examine a broad package of development initiatives as it convenes its 12th meeting of the 2025-26 fiscal year on Tuesday.
The meeting, scheduled to begin at 10am at the Bangladesh Secretariat, will be chaired by Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairperson Tarique Rahman.
According to official sources, the committee will deliberate on 13 projects covering a wide range of sectors, including water resources, transportation, local government services, healthcare, education, power transmission and industrial infrastructure.
Among the key proposals is the Barishal Irrigation Project Maintenance and Rehabilitation (Phase-I), designed to improve irrigation systems and strengthen water management between 2026 and 2029. Another major initiative seeks to address long-standing waterlogging problems in the greater Jashore region while expanding irrigation coverage through 2030.
The committee is also expected to consider the construction of Integrated Upazila Land Complexes nationwide to modernise local land administration services. In addition, plans for a new Nagar Bhaban for Mymensingh City Corporation and the upgrading of the Anwara-Banshkhali-Toitong-Pekua-Badarkhali-Chakaria regional highway are scheduled for review.
Several revised projects will also come under discussion, including the expansion of the Khulna Shipyard Road, installation of lifts in district-level government facilities, and capacity enhancement of power grid substations and transmission lines.
In the health sector, ECNEC will examine a proposal to expand Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute and review revisions to the Cancer Centre Construction Project at Dhaka CMH. Education-related proposals include extending the Madrasah Education Management and Information System (MEMIS) project and continuing efforts to establish multimedia classrooms in hundreds of madrasahs nationwide.
The agenda also features a new infrastructure project aimed at supporting the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone, reflecting efforts to attract investment and accelerate industrial growth.
Besides the 13 projects under consideration, ECNEC members will be informed about six other development projects that have already received approval through ministerial or planning authority channels, covering areas such as municipal services, waste management, postal services, educational infrastructure and child marriage prevention initiatives.
