Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has reiterated the government's commitment to transforming Bangladesh into a self-reliant, economically stable and industrially developed nation, emphasising that prosperity and dignity should be accessible to all citizens.

Speaking at a conference on trade, economic growth and economic diplomacy in the capital on Saturday, Mirza Fakhrul said the administration is prepared to undertake necessary reforms and initiatives to create new opportunities, strengthen economic resilience and accelerate national development.

Addressing participants at the event, jointly organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), the minister said the government's overarching objective is to build a modern economy based on fairness, productivity and broad-based growth.

He noted that the administration's development agenda is centred on ensuring that the benefits of economic progress reach every segment of society.

Mirza Fakhrul, who also serves as Secretary General of the BNP, said the current government, despite being in office for only a little over three months, has set ambitious goals aimed at promoting industrial expansion, attracting investment and improving living standards.

He described the conference theme - focused on addressing risks and leveraging resilience - as reflective of the government's approach to shaping Bangladesh's future development trajectory.

The minister stressed that economic equity and justice remain key priorities for the administration. He said efforts are underway to create a more balanced economic structure by reducing the concentration of economic power and expanding opportunities for broader participation in growth and development.

Earlier in the day, Mirza Fakhrul paid tribute at the mausoleum of BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman, accompanied by leaders of the newly formed Jubo Dal committee. Speaking to reporters afterward, he reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring economic fairness and dismantling oligarchic influences within the economy.

He also highlighted the importance of youth participation in national development, expressing confidence that young people would play a vital role in advancing the government's vision. According to the minister, empowering the younger generation and entrusting them with greater responsibilities will be essential for achieving sustainable growth and long-term national progress.

Fakhrul said the government remains focused on creating an environment that supports investment, industrialisation and inclusive development while laying the foundation for a stronger and more self-sufficient Bangladesh.
