Spain has expressed strong interest in expanding its investment and commercial presence in Bangladesh, with a particular focus on key growth sectors such as manufacturing, renewable energy, infrastructure, technology, agriculture and related industries.
The interest was conveyed during a courtesy meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Tejgaon area of Dhaka on Thursday, where Spanish Ambassador María Sistiaga Ochoa de Chinchetru met Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir.
During the discussions, both sides reviewed ways to further strengthen and diversify the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Spain. The conversation placed special emphasis on increasing cooperation in trade, investment, renewable energy development, infrastructure projects, tourism, education, technology, agriculture and the development of skilled human resources.
The Spanish envoy praised Bangladesh’s steady economic progress and highlighted the country’s investment-friendly environment and strategic geographic position. She reiterated Spain’s desire to deepen engagement with Bangladesh, particularly by increasing participation in manufacturing, renewable energy initiatives, infrastructure development and technology-driven industries.
She also stressed the importance of strengthening links between the private sectors of both countries in order to create new opportunities for trade expansion and investment collaboration.
On behalf of Bangladesh, PM’s Adviser Humaiun Kobir welcomed Spanish investors and encouraged them to explore emerging opportunities in the country. He underscored Bangladesh’s growing reputation as a stable and attractive destination for foreign investment, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to maintaining a supportive and enabling business environment.
Both sides expressed optimism that enhanced economic cooperation would further strengthen bilateral relations and help elevate Bangladesh-Spain ties to a higher and more dynamic level in the coming years.
