Bangladesh and the United Kingdom have discussed ways to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, education, migration and skills development.

British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke met Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday. During the meeting, she congratulated him on his election as President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly for the 2026–2027 term.

Both sides highlighted the long-standing historical ties between the two countries, along with strong people-to-people links and the role of the British-Bangladeshi diaspora, which they described as an important bridge in bilateral relations.

Dr Khalilur Rahman expressed appreciation for the United Kingdom’s continued support for the Rohingya refugees. He urged the United Kingdom to maintain its leadership role in international efforts to ensure the safe, voluntary, dignified and sustainable repatriation of the forcibly displaced Rohingyas to Myanmar, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The two sides noted the growing momentum in Bangladesh–UK relations and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation on bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest.
