CCGP clears Tk 351 crore fertiliser import plan

Bangladesh has approved the import of 75,000 metric tonnes of muriate of potash (MOP) fertiliser from Russia and Canada at a combined cost of Tk 351.26 crore to support the country's agricultural needs.

The approval was given on Wednesday by the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) at a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

Under the first proposal, the committee approved the import of 35,000 metric tonnes, with a variation of plus or minus 10 per cent, from Russia through a government-to-government agreement between JSC Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg) and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC). The consignment will cost Tk 163.92 crore, with the price set at US$380 per metric tonne.

The committee also approved the purchase of 40,000 metric tonnes, with a variation of plus or minus 10 per cent, from Canada under a state-level agreement between the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC) and BADC. The shipment will cost Tk 187.34 crore, with the price also fixed at US$380 per metric tonne.

The contract for the Canadian supply was awarded to the Canadian Commercial Corporation.
