Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has warned that the true success of the national budget depends entirely on its effective delivery across the country.
Speaking during his initial meeting with officials at the Finance Division, the minister expressed confidence that coordinated work within public departments would ensure the budget achieves its targets.
The meeting was chaired by Finance Division Secretary Dr Md Khairuzzaman Mozumder at the Ministry of Finance.
Addressing staff, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said public perception of civil servants must improve through faster and more responsive public services.
Drawing on his recent months in office, the minister urged civil servants to move away from rigid methods and adopt innovative ideas to cope with a changing global economy.
He called for open discussion in government offices rather than one-way instructions, encouraging staff to share ideas freely to improve public policies.
The minister suggested that officials should approach their workplace with a collective spirit, focusing on practical solutions rather than simply listing problems.
He added that prompt and honest feedback from every branch of the Finance Division is essential for sound government decision-making.
Later in the day, speaking after a conference on regional infrastructure, the minister announced plans to transform Cox's Bazar into an international tourism hub.
Government officials are currently preparing a comprehensive master plan to guide future construction and economic activity in the coastal area.
As part of the plan, authorities are reviewing longstanding 50-metre and 500-metre coastal building restrictions to allow planned development alongside environmental safeguards.
The minister noted that hotels, resorts, and leisure facilities must be established in designated areas without causing harm to local ecosystems.
Major transport projects are already progressing in the region, including an international airport, new railway connections, and upgraded highway links with Chattogram.
The master plan will unify these individual transport links to create a modern, digital tourism hub.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury stated that Cox's Bazar will serve as a vital growth driver as Bangladesh works towards becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2034.
