On Tuesday, the government sanctioned a proposal to import a single cargo of LNG from Singapore, aimed at addressing the escalating energy demands within the nation.

The endorsement was granted during the 46th assembly of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP), convened this year on Tuesday within the Cabinet Division Conference Room at the Bangladesh Secretariat, presided over by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed.

In response to a proposal put forth by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Petrobangla is set to acquire a single cargo of LNG from the spot market, specifically from BP Singapore Pte Limited. This transaction will be executed through the established international quotation method, with an estimated expenditure of approximately Taka 489.88 crore, translating to a cost of $11.64 per MMBtu of LNG.

The purchase committee meeting held today sanctioned several significant proposals pertaining to infrastructure, notably the establishment of a new fertiliser buffer godown and a modification in consultancy services for a substantial railway development initiative.

In a bid to enhance the nation’s fertiliser storage infrastructure, the committee has sanctioned the establishment of a buffer godown in Satkhira, designed to accommodate 10,000 metric tonnes. This initiative falls under the project named “Construction of 34 Buffer Godowns for Fertiliser Storage and Distribution (1st Revised).”

In accordance with Package-5, Lot-1, the contract has been conferred upon M/S SS Rahman International Ltd. for a total value of Taka 55.25 crore.

Authorities indicated that the newly established facility will augment regional storage capabilities and facilitate a more streamlined and effective distribution system nationwide.

In a significant development, the purchase committee meeting approved a variation proposal for consultancy services pertaining to Package SD-3 of the project titled “Construction of Single Line Dual Gauge Track from Dohazari to Cox’s Bazar and Ramu to Ghumdhum (2nd Revised).”

Furthermore, the meeting held today sanctioned two proposals pertaining to the Road Transport and Highways Division as well as the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
