On Thursday, mobile courts disconnected a large number of illegal petrol connections during drives in the Madanpur area under the jurisdiction of Bandar Police Station, imposing fines and jail terms on those responsible.
The Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources revealed the information in a press release issued on Friday.
According to the release, evidence of illegal gas use and unauthorised extension of commercial connections was discovered during the raids. Approximately 180 feet of illegal pipeline were removed, including 80 feet of ¾-inch MS pipe and 100 feet of ¾-inch hosepipe.
The drives also disconnected 13-star burners, one double-burner stove, eight single-burner stoves, four modified burners and one booster, for a total connected load of 600 cubic feet per hour. Mobile courts imposed fines totalling Tk 110,000.
During a separate operation, 80 feet of ½-inch hosepipe used for illegal commercial connections was seized. Five-star burners with a combined connected load of 216 cubic feet per hour were also recovered.
The restaurant manager in charge of the illegal setup admitted to the crime during the operation. The mobile court sentenced him to three days of simple imprisonment.
