To address the nation's expanding energy needs, the Advisory Council Committee on Government Purchase suggested on Monday that one cargo of LNG be purchased from the global spot market.
The decision was made during a committee meeting on Monday at the Bangladesh Secretariat's Cabinet Division Conference Room, which was chaired by Finance Advisor Dr Salehuddin Ahmed.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division submitted the proposal in accordance with the Public Procurement Rules 2025.
At a total cost of roughly Taka 420.09 crore, one LNG cargo will be purchased under the proposal and delivered between January 9 and 10, 2026. The price per MMBTU has been set at US$9.99.
Posco International Corporation, situated in South Korea, has been suggested as the supplier.
The LNG import, according to officials, will help guarantee a steady supply of gas for industrial and power generation purposes despite increased demand during the winter.
