The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has increased the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), setting the price of the commonly used 12-kilogram cylinder at Tk 1,306, up from Tk 1,253.

The revised price came into effect from 6:00 pm on Sunday (4 January) and will be implemented by all licensed LPG marketing companies, BERC chairman Jalal Ahmed said while announcing the decision.

BERC said the price adjustment was made in line with the latest monthly contract prices set by Saudi Arabia’s state-owned energy company Aramco, which determines global LPG contract prices at the beginning of each month for term contracts. As a result, prices of all 13 different LPG cylinder sizes have been revised for January.

According to BERC data, the price of a 12 kg LPG cylinder stood at Tk 1,253 in December, Tk 1,215 in November and Tk 1,241 in October. Prices were Tk 1,284 in September, Tk 1,140 in August and Tk 999 in July last year, reflecting continued volatility in the domestic LPG market.

Alongside LPG, the commission has also increased the price of autogas, fixing it at Tk 59.80 per litre, up from Tk 57.32 in December.

At the private sector retailer level, the price of LPG at the reticulated stage has been set at Tk 105.08 per kilogram, inclusive of VAT, compared with Tk 100.66 previously. The price of LPG supplied through private sector gas systems has been adjusted to Tk 233.50 per cubic metre, up from Tk 223.80 in December 2025.

BERC said the adjustments were based on the Saudi Contract Price (CP) of US$520 per tonne for propane and US$525 per tonne for butane. Considering the average propane–butane ratio of 35:65, the weighted Saudi CP stands at US$521.75 per tonne, which was used to calculate the new prices for LPG and autogas for January.

Under the revised pricing structure at the private sector retailer level, a 12.5 kg LPG cylinder will cost Tk 1,360, while a 15 kg cylinder has been set at Tk 1,633. Prices for larger cylinders include Tk 1,742 for 16 kg, Tk 1,959 for 18 kg, Tk 2,176 for 20 kg, Tk 2,395 for 22 kg, Tk 2,721 for 25 kg, Tk 3,265 for 30 kg, Tk 3,592 for 33 kg, Tk 3,809 for 35 kg and Tk 4,898 for a 45 kg cylinder.

The commission said LPG prices will continue to be reviewed monthly in line with changes in international market rates.
