The government is considering supplying gas from the Bhola field in liquefied form (LNG) to industrial users, instead of the current compressed natural gas (CNG) supply.
To this end, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) will hold a public hearing on 27 January to amend the existing ministry order governing Bhola gas distribution. Interested parties have been asked to submit written applications by 22 January, said BERC Chairman Jalal Ahmed.
Following the hearing, the commission will issue the necessary order.
The plan aims to supply 30 million cubic feet of Bhola gas daily in LNG form.
Petrobangla has proposed fixing the price at Tk47.50 per cubic feet, including transportation costs. Previously, CNG from Bhola was supplied at the same price on a limited scale of 5 million cubic feet per day.
Four companies have submitted proposals to transport LNG from Bhola. Currently, 32 industrial units under Titas Gas, with a combined demand of around 15.18 million cubic feet per day, have expressed interest in taking the gas.
Deputy General Manager of Petrobangla Tariqul Islam Khan said that Bapex has drilled nine wells across three gas fields in Bhola, capable of producing 190 million cubic feet per day. Drilling of 15 additional wells is underway, which will increase daily production capacity to 300–400 million cubic feet.
