BNP-nominated candidate for Dhaka-16 constituency Aminul Haque on Sunday said the prolonged gas shortage in Pallabi and surrounding areas was deliberately created to serve the interests of cylinder gas businesses.
Speaking during a public outreach programme in Mirpur-11 and nearby localities, he alleged that household gas connections were suspended by the previous government to benefit a powerful syndicate.
“The gas crisis did not happen naturally. It was engineered to force people to depend on cylinder gas,” Aminul Haque said.
“If elected, we will dismantle this syndicate and ensure gas connections in every household,” he added.
He described the lack of gas as the most pressing problem for residents, saying families are suffering daily due to irregular pressure and the absence of new connections.
Aminul Haque further said that his party has a clear plan to restore household gas supply by prioritising public interest over corporate profit.
“Gas is a basic necessity. People should not be deprived of it for the benefit of a few,” he added.
He also warned residents against misinformation, saying reports of collecting NID card photos and mobile financial account numbers under the pretext of voting were part of a conspiracy. “These have no connection with voting. People must remain alert,” he said, adding that the matter has been reported to the Election Commission.
Reaffirming his commitment, Aminul Haque said he would stand by residents in safeguarding both their basic services and their voting rights.
