Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Chairman and BNP alliance-nominated candidate for Bhola-1 (Sadar) Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho on Sunday said the gas resources of Bhola must first serve the people of the island, pledging to transform the area through energy-based development if elected in the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.
Addressing an election rally at the North Dighaldi Union High School ground in Bhola Sadar, Partho said Bhola, despite being rich in natural gas, has remained deprived of basic services and infrastructure for decades.
“Bhola supplies gas, but its people remain neglected. This injustice must end,” he said, adding that proper utilisation of local gas resources could change the economic fate of the island.
He alleged that successive governments had failed to ensure fair distribution of energy benefits, claiming that development projects were announced but rarely translated into meaningful improvements for local residents.
Partho said access to gas could spur industrial activity, improve electricity supply, and create employment opportunities for local youth.
“Gas should become a blessing for Bhola, not a symbol of deprivation,” he added.
Criticising past administrations, he said the island’s roads, bridges and public facilities remain in poor condition despite repeated promises of development.
Referring to BNP’s leadership, Partho said the party’s Chairman Tarique Rahman prioritises people’s rights and welfare.
“Under his leadership, a policy will be ensured where national resources serve the people fairly,” he said.
The rally was jointly organised by BNP and BJP units.
Bhola District BNP Member Secretary Raisul Alam and local leaders of both parties also spoke at the event, which was presided over by North Dighaldi Union BNP President Razzakul Haider Milon.
