Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has instructed relevant authorities to ensure continuous electricity supply during the holy month of Ramadan, particularly during Sehri, Iftar and Taraweeh prayers, beginning from Wednesday night.
The directive was revealed by Nurul Haque Nur, state minister for Labour and Employment, following the first meeting of the BNP-led cabinet at the Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasised that the government’s primary responsibility is to serve the people and fulfil the massive mandate it received in the 12 February general election.
“Every minister and state minister must carry out their duties with integrity, rising above all forms of influence, nepotism and corruption,” Nurul Haque Nur told reporters, quoting the Prime Minister.
The cabinet session focused on key administrative priorities, including good governance, transparency and ensuring that public services reach citizens without disruption.
Officials were urged to coordinate closely to maintain uninterrupted electricity supply across the country, particularly during religious observances in Ramadan, which are critical for the well-being of millions of citizens observing fasting and prayers.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stressed that delivering essential services efficiently and responsibly is central to upholding public trust and the confidence people placed in the BNP government.
He also highlighted the importance of accountability in all areas of administration, urging ministers to adopt a proactive approach to problem-solving and policy implementation.
The first cabinet meeting under the newly formed government set the tone for a governance framework aimed at service delivery, efficiency, and ethical administration, signalling the government’s commitment to both the religious and developmental needs of the country.
