The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) on Sunday reduced the retail price of furnace oil supplied by the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) by Tk15.90 per litre, bringing the new rate to Tk70.10 per litre from Tk86.

The price revision was announced through a media release on Sunday citing provisions under Sections 34(4) and 34(6) of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Act, 2003.

According to BERC, BPC submitted a proposal on 20 January 2024, seeking a price adjustment.

Later, state-owned oil marketing companies proposed revisions to their marketing and composite transportation charges.

Meghna Petroleum Limited submitted its proposal on 26 May 2025, Standard Asiatic Oil Company Limited on 3 June, Jamuna Oil Company Limited on 26 June, and Padma Oil Company Limited on 11 July.

A public hearing on the proposals was held on 29 January this year, allowing stakeholders and interested parties to present views and submit written feedback until 3 February.

After reviewing the proposals and feedback, the commission exercised its legal authority to re-fix the price.

Under the new structure, the marketing charge for furnace oil has been set at Tk0.72 per litre for Padma Oil Company, Meghna Petroleum, Jamuna Oil Company and Standard Asiatic Oil Company. The composite transportation charge has been fixed at Tk1.20 per litre.

The revised price will take effect nationwide from 12am on Monday.

Furnace oil, a petroleum-based fuel widely used in industrial heating, power generation and marine operations, plays a key role in supporting energy-intensive sectors.
