Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has announced a downward adjustment in the prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) across private sector cylinder categories, reducing the cost of a standard 12-kilogram cylinder by Tk15.
With the latest revision, the price of a 12kg cylinder has been fixed at Tk1,341, down from Tk1,356.
The new tariff came into force at 6pm on Tuesday, according to a notification signed by BERC Secretary Md Nazrul Islam.
The price adjustment follows a decision by the National Board of Revenue to withdraw value-added tax at the production stage and instead impose a 7.5 per cent VAT at the import level.
Authorities said the revised tax framework led to recalculation of retail LPG prices across categories.
Under the updated structure, the per-kilogram price of private sector LPG, including VAT, is now Tk111.79. Other cylinder sizes have also seen reductions. The 5.5kg cylinder now costs Tk615, down from Tk622, while the 15kg cylinder price has fallen to Tk1,677 from Tk1,695. The 45kg commercial cylinder registered the biggest drop, declining by Tk54 to Tk5,031 from Tk5,085. LPG supplied through reticulated systems is priced at Tk108.04 per kilogram including VAT. Autogas has been set at Tk61.86 per litre.
However, the price of the 12.50kg cylinder supplied by state-owned LP Gas Limited remains unchanged at Tk776.93.
BERC has cautioned traders against overcharging and said selling LPG or autogas above the fixed rates is prohibited. Distributors must issue VAT invoices or delivery orders, and legal action will be taken against violators.
