The government has announced that liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices will not be increased at present, following discussions with industry stakeholders over market conditions and supply stability.

Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir made the announcement on Thursday after holding a meeting with representatives of LPG importing and distribution companies at the Ministry of Commerce conference room in the Secretariat.

The meeting was convened to review the current pricing trends, supply situation, and market dynamics of LPG across the country.

Speaking to reporters, the minister said that although the supply of LPG remains steady, demand has risen significantly in recent times.

He noted that some retailers are attempting to take advantage of market fluctuations, which has contributed to concerns about price irregularities.

He added that detailed and constructive discussions were held with importers and suppliers to address these challenges and to ensure that consumers are not adversely affected by unfair pricing practices.

According to the minister, the issues raised by industry representatives regarding operational costs and supply chain constraints will be examined by the authorities for possible resolution.

He further emphasised that strengthened market monitoring and regulatory oversight will be implemented to maintain stability.

The minister expressed optimism that with closer supervision and coordinated efforts, LPG prices could eventually return to more stable and reasonable levels.
