Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir on Sunday assured that Bangladesh has adequate fuel reserves and there is no immediate risk to energy supplies despite escalating tensions in the Middle East following the recent strikes on Iran carried out by US and Israeli.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat, Humayun Kabir said the country is well-prepared to manage any potential disruption.

“At this moment, with the stock we have, there should not be any major problem. We have dealt with similar situations in the past. There may be some fluctuations in the energy sector, but overall, there is no cause for alarm,” he said.

Humayun Kabir emphasised that the government’s top priority remains the safety and well-being of Bangladeshi nationals living in the Middle East, as well as passengers affected by flight disruptions at home.

He said he personally visited Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport along with the Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister under the Prime Minister’s directives to assess the situation of stranded passengers.

“We are maintaining close coordination to ensure that no Bangladeshi - whether abroad or at home - faces undue hardship due to the current crisis,” he added.

The adviser noted that the government is also assisting outbound workers whose visas may expire due to flight cancellations and is in contact with diplomatic missions of destination countries to resolve such issues.

Reiterating Bangladesh’s position, Humayun Kabir said the country supports de-escalation and a peaceful diplomatic resolution to the conflict, stressing that stability in the region is vital for global economic and energy security.
