Border Guard Bangladesh has intensified border surveillance and patrol operations to prevent fuel smuggling as global energy market volatility increases pressure on domestic fuel supply.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Border Guard Bangladesh said it has adopted maximum precautionary measures across frontier regions to stop the illegal transportation of petroleum products. The move comes amid heightened concerns over the global energy situation and its potential impact on fuel availability in Bangladesh.
“Due to the ongoing global energy situation, BGB has adopted maximum precautionary measures at border points to stop fuel smuggling,” the force said in the statement.
According to the BGB headquarters, enhanced vigilance has been ordered along the country’s borders to ensure that diesel, petrol and other fuel products are not smuggled across international boundaries. Authorities said the measures are necessary to safeguard national fuel reserves and maintain stability in the domestic energy market.
BGB officials warned that any attempt to transport fuel illegally across the border will face strict legal action under existing laws.
Security agencies have also strengthened intelligence monitoring and regular patrol operations in border areas. Additional checkpoints have been established in locations considered vulnerable to cross-border smuggling activities.
Border Guard Bangladesh said coordination with local administration and law enforcement agencies has been intensified to detect and prevent illegal fuel trade. Officials believe the strengthened enforcement will help curb cross-border smuggling and protect the country’s fuel supply during a period of global energy uncertainty.
The enhanced border measures reflect broader government efforts to manage fuel resources efficiently and maintain energy security as international energy markets remain volatile.
