The government of Bangladesh has issued comprehensive instructions directing all government offices, autonomous bodies, statutory organisations, corporations, and other institutions to use electricity and fuel responsibly to address the ongoing global energy crisis.

According to a statement released by the Cabinet Division on Thursday, officials and employees have been instructed to adopt energy-saving measures in their daily operations.

Offices are advised to take advantage of natural daylight during working hours, keeping windows, doors, or blinds open, and minimise the use of artificial lighting. Where lighting is necessary, only half of the existing lights should be used, and extra lights, fans, and air conditioning units should remain switched off unless essential.

Air conditioners are to be set at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius or higher. Employees must ensure all electrical appliances, including lights, fans, computers, printers, scanners, and air conditioners, are turned off when leaving their rooms. Corridors, staircases and washrooms should also be kept minimally lit.

The directives further emphasise the use of energy-efficient devices and encourage offices to limit unnecessary fuel consumption by restricting vehicle use whenever possible.

Authorities have been instructed to issue additional guidance to ensure that these measures are implemented effectively across all offices.

By following these guidelines, the government aims to conserve energy, reduce unnecessary expenditure, and contribute to a sustainable response to the global energy shortage.
