Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has introduced fuel purchase limits at filling stations across Bangladesh, restricting how much petrol, octane and diesel vehicles can buy daily as authorities seek to manage fuel distribution during the ongoing supply crisis.

In a press release issued on Friday, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation said the new fuel purchase limits aim to ensure proper distribution of fuel oil nationwide and prevent irregularities during the current crisis period.

Under the directive, motorcycles will be allowed to purchase a maximum of two litres of petrol or octane per day. Private cars can buy up to 10 litres daily.

Sports utility vehicles (SUVs), jeeps and microbuses will be permitted to purchase between 20 and 25 litres per day.

For diesel-powered vehicles, the limits are higher due to transport and logistics requirements. Pick-up vans and local buses will be able to buy between 70 and 80 litres of diesel daily.

Long-distance buses, trucks, covered vans and container trucks will be allowed to purchase between 200 and 220 litres of diesel per day, according to the directive.

Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation also instructed filling station operators to issue purchase receipts to consumers when selling fuel oil. The receipt must clearly state the type, quantity and price of the fuel.

Consumers will be required to present the original copy of their previous receipt when purchasing fuel again from the same station.

Dealers have been directed to supply fuel immediately after verifying the purchase receipt and in line with the allocated quantity and official instructions.

Filling stations must also submit information on fuel storage and sales to their respective depots before lifting fuel oil supplies.

Oil marketing companies will review these storage and sales records against the current allocation before supplying fuel to dealers. Authorities said no supply beyond the specified allocation will be permitted.

The press release added that the government remains responsible for purchasing and selling fuel oil at prices fixed by the state.
