The Bangladesh Navy has intensified security for fuel-carrying vessels navigating the nation’s maritime routes in response to the current international and regional security environment.
A statement released by the Navy on Thursday emphasised that continuous vigilance is being maintained to protect Bangladesh’s maritime boundaries and vital sea lanes, ensuring the safe transit of commercial ships and the uninterrupted flow of the country’s import-export operations.
Crude oil vessels, which supply critical fuels such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), petrol, diesel and jet fuel, remain the focus of the enhanced security measures. While the Navy has historically safeguarded these ships, the recent escalation in regional tensions has prompted further strengthening of patrols and surveillance.
Under the new security arrangements, naval warships and high-speed patrol boats have been deployed across key maritime routes, including areas near Chattogram Port and the deep sea. Additionally, naval aircraft and helicopters are conducting aerial monitoring to track suspicious vessels, ensuring smooth anchoring and port entry and exit for fuel carriers.
Special operational teams are stationed along coastal and maritime zones to respond swiftly to potential smuggling, sabotage, or other threats.
The Navy is also coordinating closely with port authorities, the Coast Guard, law enforcement agencies, and energy-sector organizations to guarantee the security of the country’s fuel supply chain.
The Navy emphasised that these measures are precautionary, designed to protect Bangladesh’s critical maritime infrastructure, economic interests, and fuel transportation system, while maintaining uninterrupted commercial activity along national sea routes.
