Authorities on Saturday confiscated 24,000 litres of fuel stored illegally at a petrol pump in Fulpur Upazila of Mymensingh District and imposed a fine of Tk2 lakh on the owner for violating fuel storage regulations.
The operation was conducted at M/S Poppy Traders, a mini petrol pump located on Payari Road in Amuakanda area, following a tip-off received through secret intelligence about illicit fuel hoarding.
During the raid, officials discovered two underground storage tanks inside the premises of the owner’s house, along with two vehicles being used to store additional fuel.
The total stock seized included 4,500 litres of petrol and 19,500 litres of diesel.
Authorities noted that the fuel was being kept without proper licensing and outside the regulatory guidelines, creating the potential for a severe safety hazard to the surrounding community.
A mobile court, acting under the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009, imposed the fine on the petrol pump owner, emphasising that illegal hoarding and unregulated fuel storage would not be tolerated.
Officials warned that similar actions will continue across the district to curb unauthorised stockpiling, prevent artificial fuel shortages, and ensure safe and lawful fuel distribution.
District officials said such raids are part of a broader government initiative to maintain transparency in fuel supply, discourage speculative hoarding, and safeguard public interest.
The operation was conducted with coordination between local police, administration, and fuel regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with safety and legal standards.
