A mobile court in Kalihati Upazila of Tangail on Monday imposed a fine of Tk25,000 on Elenga Filling Station for storing fuel beyond legal limits and failing to maintain proper documentation.

The action was carried out under the supervision of Upazila Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Md Sajibul Islam Shuvo during an afternoon inspection of the station.

The operation formed part of ongoing monitoring drives across the district aimed at curbing irregularities in fuel storage and ensuring uninterrupted fuel supply.

During the inspection, authorities found that Elenga Filling Station was holding around 16,000 litres of fuel, exceeding the permissible limit. This included roughly 10,000 litres of diesel, more than 4,000 litres of octane, and approximately 2,000 litres of petrol.

Despite the large stock, the filling station’s sales counters were reportedly inactive at the time, raising further concern about potential hoarding.

In addition to the overstocked fuel, the mobile court found that the station had not maintained an octane calibration chart, a key document that ensures proper measurement and quality of fuel sold.

Officials emphasised that such inspections are part of continued efforts to prevent hoarding, maintain transparency in fuel distribution, and safeguard consumers’ interests. Mobile courts will continue to monitor filling stations throughout Tangail to ensure full compliance with fuel storage regulations and documentation requirements.
