A fuel tanker carrying 27,300 tonnes of refined diesel from Malaysia is scheduled to arrive at Chattogram Port on Monday, as authorities continue efforts to ensure steady energy supply amid global uncertainty.

The vessel, named ‘PVT Solana’, is expected to anchor at the port’s outer anchorage after completing necessary procedures and is likely to berth at the dolphin jetty on Tuesday for unloading.

Confirming the development, Chattogram Port Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim said the ship is en route with the diesel consignment and that fuel-carrying vessels are being given priority handling at the port. He noted that the ongoing global volatility, particularly in the Middle East, has disrupted fuel markets worldwide, with its effects also being felt in Bangladesh.

According to port data, 33 vessels carrying various types of fuel, including LNG, LPG, crude oil, gas oil and base oil, have arrived at Chattogram Port over the past 27 days.

Another LNG shipment is expected to reach the port on 4 April.

Earlier, a tanker carrying 31,000 tonnes of refined diesel, which arrived on 26 March, has already discharged its cargo and departed.

Meanwhile, a Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) official said that in addition to maritime imports, around 7,000 tonnes of diesel have been supplied through a cross-border pipeline from India’s Numaligarh Refinery Limited.

However, another scheduled consignment from India, expected on 31 March, may face a slight delay due to procedural issues.

Officials said these combined supply measures are part of ongoing efforts to maintain uninterrupted fuel availability across the country.
