Authorities recovered almost 88,000 litres of illegally stored fuel oil during mobile court operations conducted across several districts over the past 24 hours till Tuesday noon.
The information was disclosed at a regular press briefing of the Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Division held at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
According to the press briefing, the seizures included 67,400 litres of diesel, 6,444 litres of octane and 13,856 litres of petrol.
A total of 391 mobile court drives were carried out nationwide as part of ongoing efforts to curb fuel hoarding and maintain a stable supply system.
During the drives, 191 legal cases were filed, and fines totalling Tk 9,35,070 were imposed.
In addition, mobile courts handed down jail terms in several districts: one person in Satkhira received two months’ imprisonment, one in Chandpur was sentenced to one year, and another in Gazipur received a one-month sentence.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division emphasised that these enforcement drives will continue to prevent irregularities and ensure uninterrupted fuel availability.
Executive magistrates from the Energy Department are also maintaining regular patrols in key areas, including the capital, Dhaka.
Citizens are urged to report any suspicious activity or irregular fuel storage to the Vigilance Team through the official contact number provided by the authorities.
